Cujo & Ruppert!
Ruppert is a Chihuahua and his large friend is an Australian Shepherd!
The Chihuahua is lively, graceful and small. It can have long or short hair. They desperately hate the cold and will seek warmth wherever they can find it. The short coat needs very little care and may be any color.
On the other hand, the Australian Shepherd was bred from smooth blue merle Highland collies & dingos in an attempt to improve the rough country herding breeds in the Australian outback. These dogs have the herding instincts of a collie and kelpie, combined with the ruggedness and endurance of the dingo.
The exercise needs of the Chihuahua can be easily met with indoor play; but the Aussies need daily mental stimulation and a lot of physical exercise. A leisurely walk around the block will not be enough for this 35 to 45 pound bundle of energy!
Most Chihuahuas stand less than 9" tall and weigh less than 6 pounds, but they can pack a lot of boldness into that tiny frame. The Australian Shepherd, however, is known as a loving, intelligent breed, with a lot of confidence and stamina on a 23" tall frame that weighs about 50 pounds.
We are pleased to welcome Cujo & Ruppert to our practice!
