German Shepherds

The German Shepherd is a member of the herding group. Originally bred to herd and protect sheep from predators, it was intended to be a large, powerful animal.

It is one of the most popular breeds in the world and is extensively used for seeing-eye dogs, police work and search and rescue. They are considered very trainable and protective. Because of the high popularity of the breed, it's highly advised that you investigate the lineage and temperament of your chosen pup. This breed will need regular, consistent training.

German Shepherds are readily trained for the obedience ring

The German Shepherd's height at the shoulder is usually between 23 and 25 inches. It will weigh between 70 and 100 pounds.

This dog is large. If you have a small home or apartment, you will have to make arrangements for its exercise.
