The Miniature Dachshund is a member of the hound group. Hounds were originally bred for hunting, with the dachshund intended to flush rabbits from their burrows. The Miniature Dachshund can be found with a smooth coat, a long-haired coat and a wirey, harsh-textured coat. |

The average height of a Miniature Dachshund is 5 to 9 inches. A healthy weight will be around 9 to 10 pounds. The short-haired and the wire-haired dachshund need very little grooming, however, the long-haired dachshund will need grooming to prevent mats. These small dogs are well suited to apartment and smaller home life. | |||||||||
