Collies

ColliesCollies are members of the herding group. They were bred to control and to protect livestock. They are hardy and active, able to be a companion to man.

This is usually an agile, high-energy dog with a strong instinct to herd. The disposition is generally hard-working and attentative. Although most adapt well to family life, some are less enthusiastic about strangers.

The average height can range from 14 inches for a Shetland Sheepdog to 24 inches for a Rough Collie. The average weight will range from 14 pounds for the Sheltie to 65 pounds for the Rough Collie.

While the Smooth Collie has a short flat coat, most of the collies have long, double coats that require careful grooming to prevent mats.

These are typically active dogs that need plenty of exercise
to remain happy and healthy.
